St Rita’s College is a Catholic, secondary College for girls with an enrolment of approximately 800 students. It is owned by the Presentation Sisters, but is incorporated and governed by a Board of Directors. The peace and beauty of its surroundings, with its Moreton Bay fig tree, rose gardens and well-tendered lawns envelop the visitor or community member as the grounds are entered. Eye catching is stately Stanley Hall, the original school, boarding area and convent. The later buildings are attractive, well-maintained and well-resourced. St Rita, the patron of the College, watches over its members from her central position in the college. The icon of Nano Nagle, the founder of the Presentation Sisters, is also in a prominent position as one enters the foyer. The overall effect is to produce a campus where the students feel safe and secure and that is conducive to learning.
What visitors and staff say is special about St Rita’s is the attitude of its students. As a general rule, the students are proud of their College, they love their College, feel that they belong and want to learn. They treat one another and the staff with respect. The staff are committed to the welfare of their students. They endeavour to maintain a personal commitment to their students, to be open and supportive, to treat them with dignity, to be good role models and to engender an enthusiasm for learning.
The students are most supportive of one another. Friendships formed during these formative years often last a life-time. As a community our vision is to become a microcosm of the “Kingdom of Heaven” where students feel that they belong and so are able to devote themselves to the pursuit of learning in an environment that espouses Catholic values.
